Prostate Care

All men over the age of 50 should have a regular PSA test to assess the health of their prostate. The prostate is the gland that produces semen, which combines with sperm from the testes. Seminal fluid helps the sperm to travel and survive.The prostate is a ping-pong ball sized gland that is wrapped around the urethra, with an opening to discharge semen into the urethra. Enlargement of the prostate is common in elderly men, affecting their ability to control urination, and establish an erection. Commencing periodic prostate massage from age 30 however is recommended as part of a screening process, and to assist in sexual performance.

What is the PSA test?

Prostate-specific antigen, or PSA, is a protein produced by normal, as well as malignant, cells of the prostate gland. The PSA test measures the level of PSA in the blood. All men should have their PSA levels tested every two years between the ages of 50 and 70. If however they have a family history, they should commence at age 45. Early prostate cancer often has no symptoms. However, high PSA levels can occur five to 10 years before the onset of prostate cancer symptoms. In such circumstances, the PSA test can help to indicate the presence of cancer at an early stage. Early detection provides a greater range of treatment options.

Does Prostate Massage Help?

Medical opinion is not universally in agreement about the benefits of prostate massage. There is evidence however that a combination of prostate and testicular massage will encourage prostate cell rejuvenation and unclog meridians to improve blood circulation. Anecdotal evidence does seem to support the belief that massage provides relief of symptoms of an enlarged prostate, due to the reasons stated above, and the release of semen build up that may not be evacuated during a normal ejaculation.

So, what does the Prostate Massage involve?

We will start with a very thorough full-body massage for relaxation then move to the skilled prostate massage using a battery-powered wand (see photo below) for internal stimulation. The perineum is stroked and the testicles are also massaged, gently, and assessed for health. The treatment wouldn't be complete without a little extra care and attention to release all that built-up energy if you desire!
